Easy Moving
Moving house is one of the most stressful things you can do, especially if you have kids. The trick is to make it as easy as possible, to enable you to spread the load out over the course of a number of weeks. This will allow you to focus on the important task of getting your family to your new home without involving them in the stress as well. This guide will offer a few simple tips to help you prepare in plenty of time and get the whole family involved as well.
Visit Early
One of the best things you can do if you have the opportunity is to visit the property ahead of time. If the house or flat is empty, you'll be able to air out and clean the whole place without constantly having to move around dusty furniture and fully laden boxes. Doing this more than a week in advance isn't really worth it unless you want to have carpets cleaned, as dust will settle quickly. You can also use this time to lay down sheets and strips of cardboard to allow you and the removal company to walk through the house without having to remove your shoes all the time. This will save you a lot of time on the big day.
Self Storage
Don't think that you have to move everything all in one go. If you can't go to the new home in advance consider using some self storage. You'll be able to store all of the non-essentials, freeing up space in the house. Self storage is great as you can access it when needed, which will also allow you to gradually fill up your house with your personal belongings bit at a time without having to incur additional costs renting a van.
Box Labels
In order to get the kids involved get them to help you to label the boxes. Using coloured pencils they can draw on the box the various items that are within it. This will make it a lot easier to direct the removal company to the right room, and will pre-occupy the kids whilst you do the packing. You can also stick a list of the items to the lid, just in case their drawing skill need a little more development, and label each box with the location of the room it needs to go to. This will further allow the removal company to work independently and make it easier to locate items in self storage.
